Smart Grid and Integrated Energy System

Title: Smart Grid and Integrated Energy System

Speaker: Dr Hongjie Jia

Venue: Room 7.005
Time and Date: 10:00am, Monday, 14th Sept 2015

Smart grid and integrated energy system (IES) are helpful to increase the penetration of renewable energy, to reduce the greenhouse gas emission and to increase the energy efficiency. Much more attention has been paid to this area in China recently. This enables significant flexibility in terms of how electricity, gas, transportation and other systems. are integrated and coordinated. This talk will give an introduction to the following topics at Tianjin University: 1) challenges and opportunities in the area of energy in China; 2) power system stability analysis based on PMU data; 3) simulation and analysis of integrated energy system; 4) EV aggregation and integration into smart grid.

Dr. Jia Hongjie received his BSc., MSc. and Ph.D in 1996, 1999 and 2001 respectively from Tianjin University all in electrical engineering. He became an associate professor of Tianjin University in 2002 and was promoted to professor in 2006. From 2010 to 2014, he served as the dean of school of electrical engineering and automation (SEEA) at Tianjin University. His research interesting includes power system stability and security, renewable energy integration, integrated energy systems. He is the principal investigator of more than 20 projects and the author of more than 200 journal or conference papers. He is now visiting Queens University Belfast supported by a Royal Academy of Engineering Distinguished Visiting Fellowship.
